Potomac properties tend to be secured to a higher standard than average, and that is worth saying plainly: the locks here are frequently the kind that a general handyman cannot open. High-security cylinders, multipoint systems on large entry doors, gated driveways and integrated alarm hardware are all common along River Road and around Potomac Village.
That is not a problem, but it is a reason to call someone equipped for it rather than whoever answers first. Opening a high-security cylinder non-destructively requires the right tools and the patience to use them.

High-security locks and why they take longer
A high-security cylinder is designed specifically to resist the techniques that open an ordinary lock. That is precisely what you paid for. The consequence is that a legitimate non-destructive entry on that hardware is a more involved job than on a standard deadbolt, and anyone promising otherwise is either exaggerating or planning to drill it.
Alarm systems and entry
If the property is alarmed, tell us before we start. Opening a door on a monitored system without warning tends to produce a response you did not want. We would rather coordinate than surprise anyone.
Can you open a high-security lock without damaging it?
Often, yes. It is more involved than an ordinary cylinder because the lock is built to resist exactly that, but non-destructive entry remains the goal.
My entry door has a multipoint lock that has jammed. Can you help?
Yes. Multipoint mechanisms can seize with the bolts thrown. We open the door and then advise on the repair, because a jammed multipoint tends to recur if only forced.
Do you need to know about my alarm system?
Please tell us. Opening a door on a monitored property without the alarm being accounted for creates problems for everyone involved.
