DC housing is dominated by rowhouses and apartment buildings, and both have quirks worth knowing about when you are standing outside one of them. Rowhouses across Capitol Hill, Petworth and Columbia Heights frequently have a security door in front of the main door — two locks, two problems, and often two entirely different eras of hardware.
Apartment buildings bring controlled lobbies into it. We handle both, throughout the District, at any hour.
Washington DC lockouts we handle
- Rowhouse lockouts including security and storm doors
- Apartment and condo unit lockouts across Northwest, Northeast and Southeast
- Office and commercial suite lockouts
- Car lockouts on street parking and in garages
- English basement and separate entrance lockouts
- Broken keys in worn exterior cylinders
Security doors change the job
A wrought-iron or steel security door in front of your main entrance means the outer lock has to be dealt with before anyone can even reach the inner one. These outer locks live fully exposed to weather, are often decades old, and are frequently the component that has actually failed — not the door lock you assumed was the problem.
English basements
The District's below-grade units usually have their own street entrance, and that door tends to sit lower, damper and more weather-exposed than the main house door. Cylinders there corrode. If your key has been getting progressively stiffer, the lock is warning you.
Can you get through a rowhouse security door?
Yes. Security doors add a second lock rather than making entry impossible, and in many cases that outer lock is the one that has failed.
Do you serve all quadrants of DC?
We cover Washington DC alongside our Maryland service area, including Northwest, Northeast, Southeast and Southwest.
Is a DC car lockout different to a house lockout?
Technically, yes. Vehicle entry requires care around airbags and door wiring. Practically, both are handled at the location, without towing.
